DIECASTING FIRM INVESTS £100,000 INTO ERP TECHNOLOGY

BSC (Diecasting) Ltd, one of the UK’s leading zinc and aluminium pressure diecasters, has invested more than £100,000 into a new ERP system as part of a three-stage investment programme aimed at doubling turnover in the next three years.

The mid-sized company, which was just two days from closure in 2009, has undergone remarkable recovery in recent years to announce profits of more than £280,000 in 2011 and a raft of new contracts worth £2m.

The ERP system is the latest in a series of investments for the firm, which includes more than £620,000 injected into new plant machinery and £80,000 into marketing support in a bid to break into new markets and territories.

The technology has been brought on board to manage a significant increase in enquiries and is set to revolutionise the way clients and suppliers interact, allowing customers to place orders directly into the system, monitor production and track delivery at the touch of a button.

From the first enquiry to the final invoice, the system manages the entire project lifecycle, streamlining operations and generating real-time accountability. Its ability to schedule production to optimise the use of machinery means lower costs and greater flexibility, whilst the introduction of bar codes on pallets means the technology can track products as they move around the Black Country foundry, enabling ultimate traceability.

“This system is a huge step forward for BSC,” said Managing Director Les Dudley, “and something I never thought we’d be able to take advantage of a few years ago. ERP is often seen as low priority in this industry, but in this day and age you need to be efficient, transparent and accountable at every stage of the project to stay ahead of the game. I’m confident that investment in this area is going to be critical to our continued success moving forward.”
With more than 45 years at the forefront of zinc and aluminium diecasting, Walsall-based BSC operates a 44,000 ft2 facility that features the very latest in diecasting equipment. Casting and finishing hundreds of thousands of items for a wide range of customers every year, the firm’s handiwork can be found in the products of some of the world’s biggest brands, ranging from drinks manufacturers and automotive brands to every day household appliances, fixtures and fittings. The company also cast and finished the iconic Jaguar cat.
